Background: The Zombie

The Zombie is Minecraft's most common hostile mob, spawning at night or in dark caves. It slowly shambles toward players and deals damage on contact, burning up when exposed to sunlight (unless wearing a helmet). Its distinctive green skin, tattered blue shirt, and dark pants make it instantly recognizable. As one of the game's original enemies alongside the Creeper, Skeleton, and Spider, the Zombie has appeared in every version of Minecraft since 2009.

Design Notes: 10Γ—14 Pixel Composition

This 10Γ—14 grid (140 beads) uses 4 colors: green for the head and exposed skin, dark green for shadow and hair, blue for the shirt, and black for the eyes and outline. The taller-than-wide proportions capture the Zombie's upright humanoid stance. At 140 beads, it's slightly larger than the Creeper face but still accessible for beginners.

Ironing Tips

  • πŸ’‘Medium heat only β€” too hot and the beads over-melt and lose shape; too cool and they won't fuse.
  • πŸ’‘Keep the iron moving in slow circles β€” staying in one spot melts that area flat.
  • πŸ’‘Iron both sides and press under a heavy book while cooling to keep it flat.

FAQ

Is the Zombie pattern suitable for beginners?β–Ό
Yes β€” with only 4 colors and a 10Γ—14 grid, the Zombie is an easy-difficulty pattern perfect for crafters who have completed the Creeper face and want a slightly taller project.
Can I turn the Zombie into a keychain?β–Ό
Yes! The 10Γ—14 size is perfect for keychains. Iron both sides well and attach a jump ring through a corner bead for durability.
