Background: Gengar

Gengar is a Ghost/Poison-type Pokémon (Pokédex #94) and one of the most iconic Ghost-types in the franchise. Evolving from Haunter when traded, Gengar is known for its mischievous nature — it hides in shadows, mimics human voices to lure victims, and claims to be from another dimension. First appearing in Pokémon Red & Green (1996), Gengar's design — a dark purple blob with pointed ears, glowing red eyes, and a sinister grin — has made it a fan favorite. In Super Smash Bros., Gengar is a Poké Ball summon, and it plays a prominent role in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.

Design Notes: 16×16 Pixel Composition

This 16×16 grid (256 beads) uses 7 colors to capture Gengar's shadowy silhouette. Dark purple dominates the body, with lighter purple for depth, red for the glowing eyes, white for teeth and highlights, and touches of pink and light purple. The pointed ears, rounded body, and wide sinister grin with visible teeth are the three most important elements. The eyes should glow red against the dark body. Hard difficulty — the gradient between dark and light purple requires careful attention.

How to Make This Pattern — Step by Step

Supplies

  • 24x24 Fuse Bead Pegboard
  • Ironing Paper
  • Household Iron
  • Dark Purple × 80
  • Purple × 60
  • Red × 30
  1. 1

Place beads on a 24x24 pegboard according to the pattern grid.

  2. 2

Cover the design with ironing paper.

  3. 3

Iron on medium heat for 30-60 seconds with circular motions.

  4. 4

Flip and iron the other side.

  5. 5

Let cool under a heavy book.

Ironing Tips

  • 💡Medium heat only — too hot and the beads over-melt and lose shape; too cool and they won't fuse.
  • 💡Keep the iron moving in slow circles — staying in one spot melts that area flat.
  • 💡Iron both sides and press under a heavy book while cooling to keep it flat.
