Since Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space on April 12, 1961, fewer than 700 people have traveled to space. The modern spacesuit ( Extravehicular Mobility Unit) costs about $150 million and takes 45 minutes to put on. An astronaut's helmet visor is coated with a thin layer of gold to reflect harmful solar radiation while allowing visible light through — this is why space helmet reflections often have a golden tint.
