Piranha Plant: Mario's Most Iconic Enemy
The Piranha Plant (Packun Flower in Japanese) first appeared in the original Super Mario Bros. (1985), emerging from green pipes to snap at passing players. Designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, the character was inspired by the Venus flytrap and has become one of gaming's most recognizable plant creatures. In Super Smash Bros., the Piranha Plant was even added as a playable DLC fighter — a testament to its enduring popularity. The red-and-green color scheme with white-spotted lips makes it instantly recognizable in any medium, including bead art.
Design Notes: Pipe Frame and Emerging Lips
The 14×16 hard-difficulty grid captures two distinct elements: the green pipe base (bottom third) with its distinctive lip rim, and the red-and-white Piranha Plant head emerging above. The 7-color palette requires careful placement — the white spots on the lips, the green stem, and the triangular teeth are each just 1-3 beads, making precision critical. This pattern is a favorite among Mario series collectors for its dynamic 'popping out' composition.

- 3
